Ducks-R-us..........SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sorry if I misquoted your temp there ! LOL Can you actually tell the diff between -37 and -33 ?
How can you stand it ???? It's only about 22 here this am in southeastern MA but boy it feels COOOOOOLLLLDDDD ! I went out at 7 am with lots of hot goodies for the chicks and guineas.

Just remember that at -30 or so, we don't have the humidity. Just windchill. I grew up in PA and believe me, I suffered more in the winters there than I do here! Then again, we only went down to -26 the other night

When it gets to -38 or so, I go outside and take pictures of the thermometer to send to relatives (like a sister in FL).

Ducks-R-Us, I have a daughter going to college in Fargo, I feel for you guys! Hope it's like it was here and warms up soon... we hit 10 (above!) yesterday. So I got to spend extra time checking the birds to make sure that they are all doing ok and gave the geese some water to play in while I was filling the horse trough.

The avian vet told me today that they will need access to warm and dry shelter. She said that domestic ducks were totally different than wild ducks. Burrrr.

They are built the same way. Have same feathering, down, fat layers, etc... Only difference is we tend to baby domestics way more than needed. I would say , it is more in their conditioning than being "different". If they are indoor house pets, yep, I wouldnt toss them right out in -30, but if they have been raised outside they will handle anything you throw at them, just watch their feet/water. Dont want them to freeze to splashed out water. Some tropical wild breeds like Treeducks and some teal species bare watching in extreme cold, but most wilds and weathered domestics are fine in it.

This is north Georgia, I think, it may be the Artic this year--- It has been down in the 14 range and is going dwon to 11 and not getting above freezing for severall days. This is Waaaay cold for here. I have only had 11 twice in 30 years I remember when I lived 50 miles south of here.
My horses have running stream and I have a de-icer in the trough, but the ducks have buckets and small tubs for ponds and the geese have a inground pond/tub. I had to drain it 2 days ago when the ice got 1" thick on top, was afraid the pond drain would crack. The buckets with extra food slurp in it didn't freeze until 2 days ago. I have to drain the buckets at night and remove and walk the hundred feed of house out to drain it . I missed a spot the other night and had to remove the house and get a spare. The freeze free hydrandt we put in helped! Used to have to shut up the valve and reopen it a the other house, but that was only once every couple years at low temp.
About to go out now, it's the mummy clothing- effect I have that is annoying I do have 2 pair of waterproof gloves and NEED them--What I needed the other day was a face mask though, I have twice, mind you, hooked up the hose to the hydrant , but the quick connects were frozen a bit and when I pulled the lever up, I got water squirted out into my face I don't know how it does that , but it got the only part that wasn't in layers! --
