I have 4 BLRW and2 silkies, all the same age, bought the same day. They are getting the save a chick electrolytes in their water, eating medicated chick crumble, and they LOVE getting some boiled egg crumbled up. I make sure they all eat/drink/poop.... I have 2 with pasty butt, which I cleaned off, applied petroleum jelly with a q tip, but their bottoms just do not look right. sort of swollen looking, and the vent pulsates, sorry icky topic, but I love these babies so much, im willing to do anything to help them. Please help!

I have 12 chicks, and every SINGLE ONE has a rear that "pulsates". It's 100% normal. If their poop is watery, I would say cut back on the sav-a-chick. I found that with my chicks if it was slightly too concentrated they would have intestinal upset. Maybe give it every other day. Just be sure to keep them clean and they will be fine.

are you giving them grit? I am a firm believer in giving grit early. we had pasty butt and started giving them building sand and it cleared right up. a little plane yogart will help also.

Probiotics also help. I had one with pasty butt ( I only have 5 in the brooder.) You can do either yogurt or probiotics. I use olive oil instead of petrolum jelly. It works well. You can cut back on save a chick by week 3. I think sometimes that makes it worse, (someone mentioned the concentration).
