It appears that the “egg” part is thick calcium buildup attached to a very thin rubbery sack. This looks like both symptoms of not enough calcium and too much calcium. Can anyone help?

Don't worry, I had one almost just like that recently. Probably just a glitch in the egg factory. Keep an eye one it but I don't think it's anything to be concerned about unless it happens alot.

I know it freaks you out at first especially when you go to grab it and realize there is no shell and it's squishy.

I agree, most likely a glitch in the system, It will, however, need to be addressed if it becomes a regular occurrence.
