Hi. New to posting but I read all the time. We're experienced chicken owners & agreed to take some chicks from my youngest kindergarten class ('agreed' as in no one wanted them). One of them was "lame" according to the teacher but when I got her at 2 wks I decided it was untreated spraddle. For the last 2 weeks (she's 4 now) I've been trying everything to get this chick rehabilitated. Have kept the hairband/straw brace on for days, have tried the velstrap, trying the cup therapy (although as she's big now it's a jug). Sometimes her walking seems to improve but mostly it deteriorates. She does the 'splits' & rotates her body in a twisting motion to move.

So... what am i missing? Or is this just going to be a permanent thing & I give up letting her live as peacefully as possible? She's certainly a fighter.

It's very important that splayed leg be corrected in the first few days of life, when their bones and tendons are still somewhat malleable and haven't finished hardening yet. After that, if it isn't corrected, the legs will have 'set' into the incorrect position and it can be impossible to fix them. So, she may not get better :(

Thanks. What i've been fearing. Possible she'll live & just walk crazy, or is the deterioration because she's getting heavier (and really struggling with those wings) and likely to need to be culled?
