I received 23 from SpeckledHen, from Ga to Ok, only had to toss 3 of them because of them being quitters. The rest are hatching/have hatched as we speak!
I candled some of my shipped eggs from bamachic today and I only saw veins in 1 out of 7. I quit after that !!! So I just put them all back in to wait for a few more days but they don't look good either. And who knows?? I am bumbed!!!
You know, I learned a lot from this experience. It just killed me at first, but I did know going in that sometimes eggs can be damaged in shipping. But for some reason, I didn't quite believe it.
Now I believe it, but I also believe that babies can still come from that batch, and that it's just a part of incubating eggs. You have to take with good with the bad and not give up. I totally thought I would NEVER try shipped eggs again, but after a day or two...um...I ordered more, LOL.
So don't give up. And always give the eggs loads of time. I was POSITIVE that one of mine was not growing at all, but I just candled it and it's moving like crazy. So I've learned a LOT from this experience. It's all good.
OK, it looks like I have 8 that are growing! The last one that I hadn't seen movement in is definitely bigger this morning, so I'm probably catching it during naps.
8 is 8 more than I thought I'd have a few days ago. I'm happy!
I feel SO much better about hatching, now! I have more eggs coming and the weather is going to be a lot warmer for shipping, so I think it will be a good outcome.
I don't know WHY I thought USPS/weather damaged eggs didn't apply to me. How silly. I learned a good lesson from this. EXPECT 50% or LESS, lol!! And it's not a tragedy, it's just hatching reality.
