I think you've been sold a dud. He was already sick but you just didn't know it. Chickens hide their illness until its often too late.

You did absolutely nothing wrong.

On the plus side, there should be plenty of other roosters going who would love the home you can provide.

This is so sad... I'm sorry. There is a site with a ton of poor roos looking for a home I can post... Most look really healthy. Sometimes the best way to get over the loss of a pet is to get a new one IMO. By no means replace him... But you can heal with him.

80's isn't really hot. I don't see anything wrong with what you did. There may have been underlying issues like others have mentioned. You did your best and looked pretty prepared in my opinion.
