Would a vinyl floor be harmful to chickens legs because it's slippery?

Yeah but a vinyl floor is NOT slippery in reality, because you put enough bedding on it to prevent that

Vinyl flooring is hard on the heavier standard hen's feet and legs when they fly down from the roost as well as being a bit slippery. I am planning on having a good 3-4 inches of shavings over the vinyl to prevent this problem.

Really truly, there IS NO slippery here. No matter which you use, you put a sufficient amount of bedding on it and it is NOT slippery. Believe me, you need that bedding there for a lot of reasons, not just to prevent slipperiness. You do NOT want to try to go without bedding.

To answer your question above, IME vinyl is a bit more slippery than semigloss-painted plywood, when the bedding has accidentally been kicked away to reveal a bare spot. But it is not a huge vast difference.

Good luck, have fun,

I have had a vinyl floor for two years and have only used a minimal amount of bedding.... and my roosts are high.

No problems.

We sweep AND MOP the floor every week.
