Would it be inhumane to keep a chicken in an apartment?

I kept 2 adult chickens in the garage over winter...no flies but it was winter.

that being said about chickens, maybe check into coturnix quail also, they are different birds altogether but smaller, I find them to be very quiet and they tolerate confinement well.

best of luck!

Did maybe she change her name? Someone wrote back they were going to go ahead and take the hen and look for another.

I could not wait to get my ten chicks into their own house. I can't imagine dealing with the poop and the smell of even two grown chickens inside where you are eating and breathing. In my opinion they belong outside in their own house and in a yard or run.

I would get two, not just one. Unless you are there constantly to be her flock mate. You could put plastic half way up the cage tp stop her kicking stuff out, like they sell for bird cages. Definately get her or make her a chicken diaper for when you let her out.

D'uccle's are tiny, pretty hens, maybe get one of those. The are considered small even for a bantam

I thought I saw that too, and then it disappeared? Or was I hallucinating?!

Have to share...we have had chickens for about four months now. They were supposed to go into the existing coop on the upper part of our property. Once we got to the point of doing the renovating/repairing we found it was full of termites and in much worse shape than we knew. So it was torn down and as is typical, other life events have prevented us from completing the new setup.
So....we have five four month old birds who stay outside in our fenced in yard all day and come up on the porch to be let in at night. They bed down in their old huge rubbermaid brooder. In the morning they are turned out. I also have two d'uccles and they are in an x-pen in my bedroom. God they are the best birds...highly recommend them for pets. Anyway...no stink at all. Then again, they are kept CLEAN which isn't all that hard to do. lol.

BTW I love GaGa too:)
