That looks great. I would buy it and then put 1/2" hardware cloth on it that aprons out at the bottom to prevent anything from grabbing through the wire or digging under.

My husband is a carpenter and says the seller probably has a little over $200 (maybe $300 by California prices) in materials on these coops. The only pressure treated part on the coop is the bottom sill. My husband said that the bottom sill may be there forever but the rest of the wood would probably need replacing about 3 years down the road (especially in our humid area of Texas).

I also noticed that if you were to raise chicks in it, you would need to add a smaller meshed wire around the bottom, at least, to keep the babies from popping in and out of the enclosure.

But 5 x 5 isn't very big; only 25 sq.ft.

But they sure do look nice!

Would you go and see it before you bought it? That way you'd be able to judge the quality of the construction and the materials.

The only think I can tell from the photo is what others have mentioned already: the wire isn't predator proof.

Thank you everyone for your replies. Sacramento does usually get about 1 week of below freezing night time temperatures in January. Do I need to have a light bulb on during these times?

Thanks for pointing out that predators could still pull chickens through the wire.

It does seem a little small for 5 chickens (25 sq. feet) but I am also planning to allow them to free range as much as I can.
