Would like to hear from members who have bought laying age Rhode Island reds and how long they took

I bought mine one week ago , but I have only gotten 2 eggs from 8 chickens, so I'm just curious about others experiences.

The thread should be laying age. I hate autocorrect .

Sometimes they lay right away after getting them and others can take a couple days to a week or so IME.

Were they all laying before you bought them? They do take time to feel secure in new surroundings. The eggs you got at first - were ones already in process before they got to your coop.

Yes, new birds can take time to get comfortable and back to laying. The eggs that you have gotten so far where already in the pipe. Give them time to adjust, keep the stress down for them, don't handle them much for a couple weeks and they should get back to laying soon. Keep fake eggs in the nest boxes so they know where you want them to lay their eggs.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Good luck with your new flock! X4, it takes awhile for chickens to get comfortable in their new surroundings so they may take a couple of weeks to a month or more, and if they were "point of lay" pullets they may not even have been laying yet and when each bird will start will vary.
 
I guess I'm just an impatient person. I had visions of a basket full of eggs In couple if days :) . These were free range chickens and I have to keep them in a 20x20 pen so that May have an effect on them. I got another egg today so I guess I'll wait and see . Thanks to everyone for the advice. The eggs I've gotten are more medium size. Is that normal for Rhode Island reds?

The stress of moving to a new home always shuts them down after a couple of eggs that were in the 'assembly line'. They may resume laying in a matter of weeks or even months if they go into a molt. Be patient - they will lay eventually, and you will have your baskets full of eggs.
 
Well I'm getting 2 eggs per day now. It 2 weeks to the day for another one to start laying. Hope it's not two more weeks before others follow suit!!
