I'm not from QLD but Newcastle in NSW ! Good to see another Aussie posting. Just got my four lovely ladies destined for Steggles battery chicken farm. Soooooo happy that I can give them a better (just a bit !) life than what they were going to. Hope they appreciate it and lay lots of eggs for me ! I'm pretty sure they will. They follow us everywhere and are such personalities, love em. They are only at point of lay now and two have already started laying. Dogs aren't real sure whats going on (both Jack Russell X's). Have seen them crouched on the ground couple of times when they get too close with four chooks all over them. They have been so good and now they know what the consequences are they stay away ! How about you random what's your story.

hahaha ive only just started this chook thing and its not going well....i had 4 to start...2 rir and 2 black game's...1 black one died early on...think mybe it ate something? who knows...then we got 2 more rir. the last black one was a roo and it was flighty and agressive, so we got rid of it....1 of the rir was a roo too so no point in having 2 roos 3 hens...the dog got the 3 hens...1 my daughter acidentally let out...2 he waited to ambush...and the 3rd dunno what happened. i came out, it was dead and he was hiding...go figure...so we were left with the 1 rir roo...so we got 3 more rir chicks...theyre doing great! we got 2 more actual day old chicks...not "day old" chicks like the other 3 were...think they were 3 weeks old...anywho...i put them outside with the others for 1 night...behind a heap of high thick wire (no chicken wire) 1m off the ground...bout 2am i heard them cheeping and 1 of my newest smallest was ripped open and the other is missing a chunk off its thigh....its doing ok now...but yeah...thats my story! hahahaha....poor chicks...i have the best intentions and i do everything i can to make sure theyre safe...everytime something goes wrong i learn from it but i seem to make a new mistake and another chick dies...hope this will be the last of it...plus i have 2 weeks left till i have this baby of mine and im scared and excited at the same time!! i live in the great sunshine state and im really bored sitting at home playing this bloody ridiculous waiting game

.....hows ur weather? noticed u had some storms and s*t..u do alright?

Hey. Fully understand about the waiting game. My daughter was two full weeks overdue when she was born. I left work four weeks before my due date then had to sit at home waiting for SIX weeks. Reckon I put on about ten kilos then !!
Our chooks were 16 weeks when we got them and they're pretty big so haven't had any trouble with dogs and cats and stuff. Magpies swoop them when they're out in the backyard that's all. It is a sharp learning curve hey. Yeah we have had some bad weather here. Real hot for more than a week, like over 40. Then it rained pretty hard for another week or more. Seems to have evened out now. Much better !!

our weathers real sticky and crappy...cant make up its mind! stupid weather!! lol who knows how much ive put on! hahahaha
