I went to open a new duck feed bag this morning, and I filled up a bucket and left the rest in the bag, and took a scoop out of the bottom of the bag to give to the ducks for their breakfast. However, when I pulled up the scoop, there was some moldy feed in it.

I talked to my mom about it, and she thinks it's safe to feed them the stuff in the bucket that doesn't look like it was moldy. I saw one or two pieces, but otherwise it looked fine. However, I don't really want to feed them it, but I wanted to ask here since my mom seems reluctant to go up to the feedstore. (If it's even open. And it's understandable when we have the virus to worry about. )

Is the feed near the top of the bag ok to give to my ducks? Or is the whole bag compromised? Any reasons/facts as to why not so that I can convince my mom to get more if I can't feed it?

Thanks so much.

Thank you both. That's what I thought. My mom is just pretty busy today, so I get if she doesn't want to deal with it. I may have to go up there by myself later.

My only concern with taking the bag back, though, is the fact I got it a few weeks ago. I actually mark down the day I get new bags of feed, and I believe it was the 10th of February? We got a few bags and this was the last one. I'm not sure if they'd take it back or not...

I bought feed once an by the time I got home the whole car had bugs flying around in it so they just gave me a credit on my next bag when I went back a month later. Didn’t even have to have a receipt. So def worth a try. Call them first and just tell them about the mold no need to say when you bought the feed. As long as you had kept the feed from getting wet and b it was kept in a dry place.
