Would this giant cage make a good brooder?

Don't know if you are into gardening, but the wooden ones might make good cold frames....Great find!

Take all of them, bring them to the chickenstock in Pomona and auction them off! You will MORE than pay for your gas! LOL

Nice! Just clean them well since you don't know what was in them before.

If you keep them outside put small (1/4 inch) hardware cloth around the sides about 4 inches or so up so that critters like cats cannot grab a little leg and pull the chick or duckling out through the mesh. Or as I found out, just the leg. Solid bottom such as cardboard with wood chips or the towel idea. A heating pad draped over a small box for them to hide in helps as well.

Good find and good luck.

Yes! I have a couple like that which I have put together door-to-door so the two together make up the brooder for 6 chicks. I have a couple of roosts hung through the slats, but did screen over the insides on the sides. On mine to holes were big enough for a little chick to just walk out.

Enjoy!

Those look they the things they use for compost piles. I have something similar, but the sides of mine dont fold down and there is no bootom on mine. I would also say grab them ALL! lol

I told DH to go ahead and bring them all home. I will make bottoms for them with plywood and poultry wire along the sides. my first hatch is due next weekend. Actually I had a broody hatch one out over night. So it looks like hatching season has begun at our house!! Whoot!!

Holy cow! He brought "all of them" home. There are 11! I only need 2 or 3. I will be converting one this week for my chicks hatching this weekend and I'll post pictures.
