Go bigger, i just started this year, don't make the mistake of trying to save a few hundred now! I went from thinking $300 for a small flimsy chicken tractor to $1000 but ended up with a really nice coop, and much more durable and safer, than the first idea....I am so glad I spent the xtra $ up front. Watch out for chicken math!!!!!! It strikes even the best intentioned of us.... research research research!!!! The guy I bought mine from said good for 8 chickens, now that I have them in it it's too small, and they have 7.75 sq feet per bird. Plus never believe how many chickens they tell you fit in that coop. If they're confined alot, 38 sq ft is "small" for 4 chickens never mind 9 they're talking. Most layers are fairly large birds, unless your thinking banty.
