Would you cull for constant chirping? updte: blind.. what now? #12

She stops if I hold her covered in my hand. I did lower the light a little, I figured the other chicks could move farther away - which they did but she wouldn't stay by herself, instead she followed them and tried to burrow under them.

She's cold. She won't stay under the lamp because she needs her flockmates. I've seen this with my own chicks. I had to adjust the brooder and make it warmer.

No, I would never cull a chick for peeping loudly. Most often they are too cold when they continue to peep.

Two people have watched my chick and both think she is blind. I have read lots of posts with pros and cons of culling her. Long term who knows but I would like to try keep her for now. My questions are: what is better for her, separate or keep with the flock? What specifics does she need?

This may be why we have had the new round of frantic peeping. it started when I cleaned and changed the brooder box. I was just going to move everyone to a dog crate. Maybe I could move her in with my banty chicks - or them with her. I have always progressed my chicks from brooder to dog crate to small coop and then they move themselves into the large coop when they are ready. That's too much transition for her so I have to rethink how this is going to work.

Maybe she would do better with a little box of her own - stuffed animal inside, and maybe draped over to make a cover - I think it makes them feel more secure to be in a small place. She could come and go but has something to retreat to.
