I finally found the secret hiding spot! My two hens have been so weird lately Id get 2 eggs one day none for a few days back and forth back and forth-we searched all over for another nest-nothing ....until today. My DD happened to watch her chicken walk accross the driveway towards the big dirtpile. The hen went under tree roots and dissappeared for a few minutes. When she came out DD and I ran over and about 2 feet in-under tree roots there was a very dark cool sand nest with 9 eggs!!!!! we collected them all-washed them-float tested everyone. All 9 sank not any was even close to floating so we put them in fridge-would you eat them? they could be 1-10 days old. but...they were shaded in a very cool dirt nest??? I will throw them away if you dont thinkthey are good-dont want to take any chances-but then I read all the time people leave their eggs out for weeks on the table???

Hi! No I am NOT stalking you!

I would eat them. That's just me though, I tend to be a little lax on that. My DH sometimes thinks I am trying to kill him, it hasn't happened yet!

Edited to add, I do leave a basket of eggs on my counter. Never had a problem.

Heck yeah. So long as the bloom isn't washed off the eggs (which it wasn't until you floated them), they'll keep a long time. A cool dirt pile sounds just about as good as a refrigerator!

One of the chicken magazines i was reading said eggs were good for up to 3 months. Yeah, thats what i thought...3 months?? Okay. Mine get eaten in about 2 weeks so we will always be good.

They should be just fine. If you check down at the bottom of this post, there's a link to an article that talks about how long an egg will last without refrigeration.
