Between Sleep and Awake
Do you believe in magic? Santa? The Easter bunny? Fairies? I do. Do you believe that even if you're ordinary on the outside, you can be extraordinary on the inside? I do.
Fairies are real, but they aren't the tooth fairy, or little people with wing; in fact they aren't even really called fairies, instead they are known as fae or faeries. Faeries are simply normal looking people, aside from the piskie wings on their backs only visible to people who have an inner magic like the Lost Children. Each fae has a special ability having to do with nature such as plant, water, ice, fire, bird, and even venom. Venom fae are rare and a dangerous group that has just recently popped up, you should be very wary of them.
Faeries live in the place between dreaming and being awake. In order to get there, you must be either part of a legend or be accompanied by a faery or other legendary creature. The fae land is called The NeverNever, every still living mystical creature abides there in the thick Wyldwood including everything from unicorns to the ghostly sirens that can gain control of a human with a single note.
Every year, a faery who completed the three year training, is chosen to be released onto earth to protect a human child who is different from others; they believe in magic, they are magic. The lost children of Earth were once few and far between since the invention of the 'Guardian Fae' the numbers of believers have slowly been rising, thanks to all the Lost Children being sent to a special performing arts school. The Lost Children, however, have a tendency to die young because of how accident prone they are. The odds are not in the Lost Children's favor, the only thing that has kept them alive so long is their faith in magic.
A few years ago everything changed, a lost child by the name of Alexander was killed by his faery guardian, Vamon. Vamon was the first of the venom fae, faeries who'd been plagued by darkness for centeries but had never come out of the shadows until they had a leader- Vamon. They plague the Lost Children with many nightmares, and try and dose their belief in their distant dreams, even though they are just hurting themselves as well. Since then rules have become tighter with the guardian's, you are picked at birth, hardly ever is a venom faery selected from training; those chosen are groomed from the time they are born to be a great leader and warrior.
Diamond faeries are a rare sighting in the human world and are only able to be seen by another fae. Diamond fae are bird faeries who took action against the Venom faeries, sending them to the dark depths of NeverNever where no light reaches leaving most all the Venom fae very pale.
