Personally I don't like diamonds, but I love other stones, especially a ruby or garnet. Feel him out, ask him about diamonds. I applaud you on taking the initiative to ask him though! Good luck!!

What kind of metal is the band? If it is Titanium you should not have an issue with the scratching. The diamond and it getting 'gooped', well that just depends on what he does. I forget I have my stones on ALL the time. I have had to dig epoxy and polyurethane out of the cracks at times! Then lets add flour paste and paint...... it is amazing how nicely these little buggars clean up.

I like them, as long as it would be comfortable for wearing all day........

I think that my DH would wear it. He travels a lot and has seen other men wearing rings with diamonds in their bands. It seems that you know what your guy likes. So go for it, the worst that could happen is that he won't marry right now,
