I need group input here, because I want to do the right thing.

I bought a lot of 7 goose eggs last Thursday night on Ebay.

They arrived today. Total with shipping was $51. 8 were shipped, one was brokern, so I got what I paid for in that sense.

My complaint is about the level of filth on them. IMO, they are pretty dirty with what appears to be dried feces, not just mud.

I am afraid that they won't hatch due to bacterial contamination.

What should I do?

Contact seller and complain?

Wash them and take my chances?

Put them in the incubator as is?

I will wait for group input before making any decisions. TIA

Its true they shouldn't be that dirty if this person is selling them...BUT Naturally they would get mud and poop on them sitting under the goose, put them in your bator just the way they are. DO NOT wash them, that is how you will get bacteria into them. Eggs are layed with a protective kind of slime coat that keeps out bacteria even after it dries.

Then, go on eBay and make a comment on the seller's page saying that your eggs wer not in the kind of condition you would expect to recieve them.

I have hatched eggs way dirtier then that....I have yet to collect a clean goose egg...They lay them in the oddest places and then step on them with their dirty feet...The seller prolly didnt want to wash them as alot of people do not wash eggs before incubating, I dont personally wash eggs.....

I think they should have wiped them off first, but you can do that too. My eggs look like that sometimes. Depends on the weather and if any egg eaters got in the next box.

When I bought goose eggs off of ebay mine arrived just like that. Goose eggs are hard to hatch. I put them in the incubator as is ~ I did not wash them off. I put them in as a staggered hatch with chickens. I had a total of 3 goose eggs develope. 2 hatched and 1 died before hatching. The "mess" on the eggs I don't think had any effect on the hatch. This was my first time hatching goose eggs and after hearing how hard they can be to hatch I was pleased with my 2 Sebestapol babies. Oh, and all my chicken eggs hatched out just fine as well. Good luck with your hatch.

If I were you I would return them since you could always put new hay under the goose and acording to The guide for better hatching, "dirty or mishappen eggs should not be set." Seven dolors for 1 egg or $6 for 1.

Contact the seller before you post negitive feedback on his page.. as a past e bay seller I would have wanted to know about your
dis-satisfaction before you posted negitive feedback....maybe he was afraid to wash them because he was taught not to do so.. everyone has different ways of hatching out eggs....You got all the eggs you paid for as they must have packed them carefully.. did his add gaurentee "clean eggs" or just goose eggs??? What you have there from my experience are goose eggs just like they were found in the nest.. you paid for 7 you got 7.. be happy with that.. from the horror stories I read on here it is a miracle you got all that you paid for.. you are lucky the seller added extra in for breakage. Now if you paid for clean goose eggs thats a different story.....
