Wound on neck from mating

One of my female ducks has a wound on her neck from the male holding on while mating. The wound appears to be scabbed over, but in the morning when I open the coop, it looks as though it has been bleeding. Once she takes her morning swim, it looks better.

What's the best way for me to protect the wound and allow it to heal? Vet tape? Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening? I have 1 male and 3 females. Of the 3 girls, one has the wound, one has thinner feathers in that same spot and the other looks totally fine. I'm thinking the male has a favorite, which is why she's got the wound.

The ducks sleep in the coop with my chickens. I have not seen any sign of the chickens bothering the ducks or even noticing the wound. During the day the ducks keep to themselves and the chickens do their thing. They eat together without issue. The ducks always go in last at night, and all the chickens roost up high while the ducks sleep on the ground. I do want to be mindful because I know chickens like to peck blood, but to this point, I have not seen any sign of the chickens bothering the duck.

If the wound becomes more serious/extensive, I would remove the drake from the flock until she heals. If you want fertile eggs, allowing 'conjugal' visits once a week would provide them.

Thats good you have more Females then Males. Its always better to have a Equal amount of both or more Females, If you can. You might have to Separate the ducks and do something with the male away from the females for a while, If he tries to mate aggressively (maybe not aggressively. But as the Photo, holding onto to her neck for a long time) You might have to find a new duck. Although, I recommend to separate them. And it *might* do something

I had a Pekin drake breed with a Mallard and I left the wound alone and it healed fine after a couple of weeks it healed and feathers started growing back.

I have one Drake with 14 girlfriends and saw this yesterday immediately put him in Drake jail before it could get worse. Sprayed her neck with veteracyn and put some antibiotic ointment.(the kind with no pain relief added.)
I have chickens also but keep them separately. Did you know a Drake can accidentally kill a chicken by trying to mate with her?I am keeping my Drake in Drake jail during the day. It’s a small pen I made for him right in the middle of my duck yard. He can see all the girls running around, but he can’t reach them he’s doing pretty well. I’m not going to risk him tearing someone up.

You can use blue coat spray to cover her wound so the chickens don’t see the blood. I would not risk the chickens pecking her neck. I’d keep them separate. That’s just me though. I am very careful now. I once lost a duck by chickens, pecking her prolapse to shreds .

Also overnight in the coop, my Drake now sleeps in a dog crate so He is with the others, but not able to touch them. I heard that by September or October he should be calmer.
