Hi everyone,

I need a little help.... we are newbies, and one of our girls had what looked like a black lumpy growth, when I went to get a better picture we noticed she is bleeding, Should she be separated from the rest? how should I treat this? No there marks, scabs or lumps. Eating, driking and behaving normal. Seems to be bothering me more than her.

You might try a little Neosporin, clean the area with a warm damp cloth, let dry for a moment, and then apply. Chickens like blood, that is why they peck at damaged flock members, If it is red, the chicken mind says it must be dead. SO if the other birds are not picking at her, I suppose you could let her stay with the flock. if they are picking at her, she would need be separated until such a time as she heals. Regarding the growth… I don't know what that is, perhaps someone else has experience with this mystery development on the side of her head.

Best to you and your birds,

RJ
