One of my RIR hens got a small wound on her hip, and the others started pecking at it until it was a bloody hole about the size of a cigarette filter. So I made a little quarantine pen for her, with some water, to keep her away from the others for a while. I smeared some 3 way antibiotic ointment into the wound on days 1 and 2. After that I broke a peice of aloe vera off a plant in the house and squeezed the juice into the wound. After 1 week the wound was healed and she returned to the flock.
I have treated chicken wounds that way for many years. I treat my own wounds the same way. I think that once I've made sure there is no infection, by using the antibiotic ointment, then the aloe vera makes the wound heal very quickly.
