Hello,

My Peking duck was attacked by a fox on Sunday. By the time we got to her flies were everywhere. So the next day we spent battling maggots. We have now removed all maggots and her puncture wounds seem robe healing with betadine and antibacterial cream, but she has begun labored breathing and coughing. At first we thought that it is because she was sedate for so many days and movement tired her out, but now she breathes heavy anytime she walks. Any thoughts?

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Sorry it's not under better circumstances and that your duck has been attacked. I'm afraid your duck could have suffered internal injuries from the puncture wounds. I'm afraid internal injuries don't generally have a good outcome. It could also be infection that has set in and some antibiotics may help your duck. I see you have posted in the duck section, I hope the duck keepers are able to help you better.

Wishing you the very best of luck, I hope your duck makes a recovery :fl

Sorry to hear about your poor duck. I hope you get the information you need soon to help her out.

Good luck to you and to your duck.

Thanks for joining us!

Maggots are nasty to deal with, after they have finished dying tissue, they will attack live tissue. They can migrate throughout the body if they aren't all removed. They can cause much more grief than the initial wounds. Please keep the duck inside so no more flies will get to it, till it is well healed. I hope it will recover.
