Chicks continue to amaze me. Whenever I think that a chick just could not possibly have survived something (like the time one almost froze to death and was almost too weak to cheep) then it lives. And when I say, "It should be fine!" it usually dies.
Our first hen went broody a little before Sep. 19, but I didn't give her eggs until the 19th. Ten to fifteen days later, I decided to put all of her eggs in the incubator to give them a better chance at hatching. It was dark out when I was gathering her eggs and I accidentally put this one particular egg in a different nesting box because I thought that it wasn't one of hers. It remained cold (not under broody hen or in incubator) all night, and part of the next morning. I didn't have much hope, but put the egg in the incubator just to see if it would hatch.
Look what I found this morning! (the eggs surrounding it should hatch in a week or two, and they are dirty because our broody hen is messy)
It will probably hatch sometime late this evening. I hope it does soon because it's hatch mates are getting stronger and want to move around more!
