Ive just had all 13 eggs hatch for a first time broody,I reckon thats pretty good.
Do I need to seperate mum and babys from the drake and the other laying female?
I think I heard the drake can be a little mean towards young ones?
Thanks guys.

I kept my mama and ducklings separate from the drake because he wanted to manipulate all her time, and they can be mean to the babies, the other hen could even kill them, Congratulations on a great hatch

Not only are they great at brooding, but also they are great mothers. Many drakes are fine around ducklings. It really depends on the personality of the birds involved. Separating solves that problem but can lead to others when reintegrating them to the flock.

Good hatchers, that they are!! I recieved duck eggs from a lady who told me that the fertality rate of her eggs wasn't that good etc, so I gave them to my scovie to hatch and she ended up hatching 17/20!! Wayy more than I expected!

My drake won't tolerate ducklings or anyone or thing around his girls, he never hurt them but they had to be fast or he would get them with his bill. I just kept the mommie and ducklings separated till they we're a couple weeks old.
