Wrapped chicks.

Checked on my hen this morning and found three dead, shrink wrapped chicks! Shell was completely off, but membrane had dried around their little bodies. Never had this before with hen brooded chicks. Water tested the rest of the eggs and they seem viable. Any reasons why they would do this under the mother?

Maybe she got off the eggs or picked all the shell off before the chick was ready to hatch.

i just had that happen with my hen sitting on 8 marans eggs three had shell almost all off but were stuck in dried membrane. two didnt pip but were fully developed just were too big and couldnt move to hatch , last three i peeled them halfway out of shell and dabbed some water on the membrane and put them back under mom, they are now three days old and doing great. hope the rest of yours hatch out ok
