Wrapping your roost

My roosts are sanded and sealed to help keeping them clean easier. I have never had a case of bumblefoot but think you should check their yard for anything they could injure a foot on.
 
Thank you for all the advice. I sanded and rounded my 2x4. I found an article on wrapping the roost with inner tube from bicycles and that it keeps mites down. Not too sure about the latter part of that, but I did wrap it with inner tube and my girls seem to like it. Much quieter in the roost when it’s bedtime than previously when I was using a natural 3 inch branch that was cut in half to make a flat top for the girls to roost on. Supposedly the rubber also keeps heat in for their feet when roosting.
 
I happened to luck into one of these on the 80% off bin at Home Depot.

Nothing is wrapped ... just painted.
