Wrath's Marans

I managed to snap a few pics over the last week and forgot to post them.

Last Thursday was our first yearly ritual of duck killing white acid appearance upon release.

Saturday....Joannie layed a heavy bloom. This is only her 3rd egg from being broody, then going into her molt.

And yesterday I snapped a few of the babies. They'll be 7 wks old on the 27th.

I didn’t know you had ducks (or if you told me, I forgot!). I’ve never seen ducked that had black bills but yellow feet either, or is that just in the winter?

That’s a handsome little cockerel in those last photos.

They started out yellow, but gradually got blacker. I have no idea why.

I used to joke in the Marans thread back when I first joined and posted a pic of them, I claimed they were a new white Marans hybrid I was working on with paddle feet and swam so I didn't get in trouble for posting non Marans. šŸ˜‰

He's the only guy hatched from Jessie who is Joannie's daughter. If you recall them first 2 boys from Joannie (Easter hatch) had v shape type so I sold them. Hopefully this guy looks better after he grows out.

He reminds me of what chunky Kong looked like around that age. But he appears to have a much better leg stance to me.

Kong.....

This guy is the biggest and the one you commented about that you liked a few days ago. I double banded him to keep an eye on. He's got some mossy going on his back but from what I understand that's ok in the cockerels. There's only the 2 boys from Gloria (red bands), no pullets this time. She was the only one of Betty's 3 pullets that wasn't mossy and layed the darkest egg of them 3.

Jessie and Gloria were pullets that I sold but I incubated some eggs from because they were the 2 darkest pullets eggs to keep the genes in the flock. I'm bummed I didn't get any pullets from Gloria but I did get 3 from Jessie so I'm excited to see eggs from them being F2s.

You joined the marans thread before me, right?

Sold 5 of the boys this morning. The 2 OE's, 2 from mixed flock and the one from Black (MMM)

All the rest are staying awhile yet til I can make selections for keepers. They are all BCM's other than Poppy.
There's 4 from Raven and 2 from Momma that are 13 wks.
And 3 are 7 wks (1-Jessie, 2- Gloria)

And hopefully I'll get to see some first eggs from the pullets soon, Solo the Black Silver should be first being 23 wks now. Her comb is reddening up but no interest in the nest boxes so far. Hoping they don't make me wait til Spring......šŸ¤ž

Happy Thanksgiving everyone, hope you all have a safe and happy day !! ā™„ļø
