Wrath's Marans

That's Darwin for ya!

Thing is, these are not wild fowl anymore, they have good instincts, but they are often too chonky to really get away like the wilder breeds. Shame.

I've had my share of hawks as well, 1 loss (out of sommat like 70 chickens) so I will count myself very lucky.

Again, loads of boys. Most of them are completely useless wastrels and will call for a butterfly but yeah, they're trying.

You building more and more coops? hehehehe we are adding awnings for shade/rain cover since the hot weather finally broke.
Expanding runs at the moment. Complete u shaped around the barn with interconnecting doors so when 1 flock is freeranging another flock has access to their run. It's like that now but runs were smaller, only 2 were connected.

Trying to get a growout coop built also, that run is done, sort of... Needs a better roof, but it's covered.

Saturday was hatchday for Angel's Poppy x Solo eggs and another failed hatch. So guess what....

For those not keeping score, 3 broodys remain.
P/G is sitting on 10 of Mommas eggs due the 14th.
Lil Black has the final 2 from Poppy x Solo (molting= no eggs) and 4 of Chloes who is Mommas only daughter. These are due the 15th. Last chance for a while to see what Poppy is hiding under that White.
And our BA is sitting on 7 Lil Jessie (Joannies Granddaughter). Due the 20th.

I predict white leghorn in your future for a Zombie project. I don’t know how you do it. I have way less birds here and I’m trying to thin things out for winter. I do love the looks of an Ayam Cemani it’s on my wish list but I gotta focus on the birds already in the yard.
I'm actually starting to post a lot for sale, I need to thin them down.
I'm keeping what I feel will be the best to keep going and I'll make some mistakes but I can hatch more if the hens are still here.
