Wrath's Marans

It's been a rough couple weeks here filled with a lot of time consumed in getting the runs weather proofed for this cold snap we got and building another bachelor coop for the boys.
Saturday December 6th started out with heart break as we lost our buddy of nearly 5 years... King. Its still not close to being back to normal here not seeing him everyday or hearing is mighty crow. With that same day also, a little ray of sunshine peaked out when W/W's eggs she was brooding decided to hatch a day early with 2 BCMs of Coppers and a Blue BCOE from Christy.

@wrathsfarm I'm so sorry about king. He's sired lot of handsome chicks, and I'm sure his legacy will live on well. ♥♥

@wrathsfarm I feel like I recall asking @Chooks man about which parent contributes egg colour more and he seemed to think that the male being more important is a myth, and they only get credit because they sire more offspring. I could be misremembering but I remember correcting my own notion because I’d always read that the sire contributed egg colour more, but he said it was roughly equal.
you are right .girls are more important because we can see they eggs color /shape and size , if inbred male is selected than he will be very potent as much as the hen ,

Those look beautiful!
Thank you, love the contrast of the blues next to the Marans eggs. Much better set up for more Olives this year with 7 girls. We have Christy who is our F1OE, 3 Legbars, 3 Ameracauna x EE's.
I have a BC1OE from Poppy x Christy that just hatched a couple weeks ago but haven't gendered yet.

I missed posting this one...our second daughter from Doro (w/r) who sadly passed this year has started laying. Super happy I have these 2 to carry on her legacy.View attachment 4270624View attachment 4270625View attachment 4270623View attachment 4270622
Nice bloom + spotting.

... You are making me want to do a very large hatch out.

I bought two GQF's cabinets last week and waiting on a power cord to come in and some trays. (:

When mine start laying consistently maybe I will do an extra large hatch lol.

Those would be dreamy to have here. I can do 100 eggs with my 3 bators but have thought about stepping up if I ever get a hatch room built.
