Wrath's Marans

I favor the russet reds over the dark browns. True Marans color in my opinion.... congrats, my friend.
Yeah this one was from cedar hills, and I think I selected right.

Hoping they produce somewhat consistent off spring too. We shall see what 2026 holds :) lol

Egg production is up by 2 more pullets.

Today is hatch day! I think 7-8 are out so far, I can’t really get a picture yet and I don’t want open the door. Lots of noise though and I counted at least 7. My incubator sits on the floor so I don’t want to lay down on the floor and try to fight the glare on the door for a photo.

Awesome looking forward to the pics.

@wrathsfarm
Question for you regarding incubating the heavy bloom eggs. I’m trying to breed for heavy blooms in my BBS Marans. I have a male and two females with the trait. I’m curious about your hatch sucess and what RH do you run in Michigan winter?

I typically shoot for mid 20-30 first 18, not over 55 lockdown. I've has good success with it.
When I start hatching here towards February I usually have to add water (furnace), but once the furnace gets shut off I can dry hatch and keep those parameters and then bump at lockdown. I tried last spring to run dry straight thru and didn't seem to have as good of hatch rate as bumping at lockdown but quite a few still hatched. Only hatch rate I can think of there was the BBS Silvers, 24 shipped 1100 miles, hatched 12. I considered that a great 50% for shipped eggs. Last fall I did another dry straight thru and it was horrible hatch. 48 eggs and hatched 14 (I think). Consolation there...they were my eggs so no huge loss for as much as I hatch. Just hurt my sales on that hatch.

I don't get enough blooms to worry about so can't comment there too much other than, I would think just run them as normal. Candle at lockdown and see what your hatch rate is. Then crack the eggs that didn't hatch to see how many actually developed.
