We chased a bobcat out of the yard around 5 PM yesterday, but it had hauled my girl Jinx by the head, trying to get her over the fence.
I thought she was in death throes, but after a few minutes of stroking her she stood up. She has been bitten on the side and back of her head and began drooping her head down.
Care:
-immediate isolation on blankets in our dark closet.
-swabbed nostril area, as her breathing sounded like there was blood in her nostrils.
-offered a bowl of sugar water after she seemed to be calm.
Status:
-She survived the night and is standing, but now her head is drawn in and bobs in a small twitch, not a large movement.
-one eye remains closed, she can jerk her head up when I try to get her beak tip in to drink. Refusing the water, and I’m not sure how to syringe it in without drowning her.
-breathing isn’t noisy, she’s making no noise and hasn’t moved her location, just from laying to standing.
Advice:
Should I try forcing electrolyte/egg by syringe or avoid stressing her further and put her down? I know it’s hard to say not seeing her, but my gut says this is too severe.
She’s a 4 year old sex-link, and my guess is nerve/brain trauma and shock. I feel like I should have put her down right away and should do so now, but I wanted to give a
chance for the shock to wear off.
