Will my duckling survive this?

My Pekin went broody and didnt do a great job with the eggs. I ended up with 2 under a heat lamp due to being broken (the third she broke and kicked outa the nest when it started hatching. Never letting Pekins try this again >.<). Both inside ducklings i had to assist outa their shells and when i got out the 2nd i found what looks like mold growing inside. The duckling just seems off and i already assumed it’ll die, but it has been 21hrs so far and only getting more lively rather than deteriorating. I only just realized its head is tilting backwards.

I wanna do what i can for this baby even if it doesnt make it. Is there anything i can give it to help? I already know it needs a buttload of B vitamins for the neurological issues, is there anything i can give it to counteract the mold toxins?

Are you sure it was not just yucky stuff left over from hatching? I’ve seen it rec to use poly vi sol with out iron and 400 iu of vit E the soft gel so you cut the tip and put the insides right inside the Bill I sure hope your little one makes it. Please update when you can.

Sorry to hear about your duckling.

As far as the mold concern, you'll want to keep the ducklings in a nice warm, and of course, mold-free area, with plenty of ventilation. If you think some of the issues were caused by the mold, you can sprinkle a little bit of activated charcoal on its food, or mix a little bit in with water, and drip a drop, being careful not to aspirate, onto its bill. Just do this once, or for the feed offer it for a few hours.

Considering the other possibility that this is more a malnutrition issue, you'll want to give the duckling one drop of a High-Level B Complex for cattle, and in addition, one 400iu human soft gell vitamin E capsule, you can give this over treats, or drip a drop onto her bill. Mashed scrambled eggs for protein would be great as well.

Thanks a lot!

I’m fairly positive it was mold. They cracked the egg from top to bottom trying to share the nest. I didnt have anything to seal it besides tape so it was like that for 4 days under the heat lamp. When the baby came out there was quite a bit of patchy blue all over the shell and it smelled worse than the other 2 eggs. Yesterday when i finally tossed the garbage bag, the shell was completely coated in fuzzy gunk whereas the other shell wasnt. This is my first year having eggs hatch so i could be wrong.

I’ve been watching the baby and i think i may have jumped the gun a bit. It’s switching between holding its head normal and slightly elevated. But I didnt realize its tilting its head too far back and falling over cus it’s trying to look up. I’mma follow the nutritional advice just in case as i’m still worried about it but right now it’s acting like a regular hyper duckling and eating/drinking fine on its own. Thanks so much!
