Wry Neck - Confused about treatment

Not really I have to help him, I have to put his mouth in the water bowl or dip water on his beak with a syringe and he'll drink then. Is it ok to soak his food or is it better to get the baby parot food mix???

either one will be OK. OK, well keep the water going because you don't want him to dehydrate not since it's been past his two day mark..

I have done Polyvisol FOR YEARS, it has helped ALL my wry neck problems, it's always been NUMBER 1 On my EMERGENCY LIST ALWAYS, so I highly disagree with you.

Maybe you should ask yourself why you have so many with wry neck. I have polyvisol in my first aid kit too, but the evidence is mounting for the B1 and selenium. The multivitamin will of course be effective but probably not as fast as targeting the the precise deficiency. It is not a matter of agreeing or disagreeing, simply a matter of treating the ailment in the best way possible.

My Rocky seems to be perking up some but still not eating on his own. If I do attempt to tube feeding do you have to use the baby bird mix or is it alright to just soak his regular food? He has been eating some baby food but I have to open his mouth and squirt in with a syringe. Tomorrow will be 1 week of treatment for him though the Polyvisol was added on Friday. Really seems to show some improvement so I'm keeping hopeful!

Have you had a look at the link I posted ? If I were you I would PM Kathy ( casportpony ) this really is her area of expertise.

First of all, I don't have an issue with wry neck very often but when I do it's the first thing I grab. I use polyvisol for many many things other then wry neck..

I have had about three issues in the past ten years or so. Two were minor and one was really bad...

Not trying to be argumentative , I just think that there should be more effort put into finding the cause. So many chicks being hatched with wry neck, perhaps the hens diet is lacking and therefore passing to the chicks. I personally have not had any cases in my 8-9 years of raising and breeding silkies, however I've had several people come to me for help.

Yes, I did check it out and I have everything I need but hoping since he seems to be improving maybe he'll start eating on his own soon. I'm giving the vitamin B complex, vitamin E, Selenium, Prednisone and the PolyViSol mixed in with baby food. All I know is it seems to be working. Thanks to everyone on here your info has been very helpful.

Could most definitely be the parents diet. I was informed a good blow to the head, and I know this is true. Silkies are prone to getting it since they have there brains on top of the skull makes them prime victims. According to my vet..
