My 2 year old barvelder presented with a lump on her toe a week ago. She was moving slowly and getting pecked. When I removed the bump, it became clear that it was a balled up piece of dirt and nothing harmful. However, my flock sensed that she was off and attacked her, making her comb bleed. I immediately isolated and treated the wound with hydrogen peroxide. Unfortunately, now her one eye is swelled shut and she has lost all ability to stand. Her head is completely upside down as well. I am syringe feeding her and providing the appropriate dose of nutridrench. I rubbed vetrx on the eye area too. Does this sound like a case of wry neck or mareks? I am deciding if we should persist witg hope of recovery or humanely cull as she is clearly in misery.

Wry Neck is the name of a symptom (neurological). Some common causes of the symptom (Wry Neck) are Marek's disease, trauma to the head/neck and sometimes deficiency.

Treatment is to give vitamin therapy. 400IU Vitamin E and 1/4 tablet B-Complex daily along with a little egg for the uptake of E.
Nutri-Drench doesn't contain enough vitamins, so I'd just go to Walmart and buy a bottle of each.

Sounds like she's been unwell for a while, when was her last egg?

Photos may be helpful, show her, her poop and eye.

Does she seem to be able to eat normal feed o.k. with her overgrown top beak?

I'd try the vitamin therapy and see if that helps.
Thank you! Yes she has been able yo eat well and was laying eggs up to the day of the attack. Her comb is still surprisingly red and there are no signs of any other distress other than the scabs from the attack.
