Wry neck getting better, then worse, then better, then worse again?!? Help!!!
I have a 4 month old satin rooster named Harley. On 2/24 we noticed signs of wry neck. We started him on vit e caps. On 2/28 I went out to the coop to find Harley flailing on the ground, unable to straighten his neck. When he stood, his neck was under his belly (6:00 on the clock) We drove into town and got vit e paste and red cell from Tractor Supply. By 3/1 in the afternoon he was keeping his head in the correct position about 70% of the time. He would twist to the side primarily when I moved him or he was off balance. He was getting a pea Suze amount of vit e 3x per day and 1cc red cell 1x a day. In the AM on 3/2 he had back slid and unable to bring his head up. His head was stuck in a 3:00 or 9:00 position. He was still eating and drinking on his own. On 3/4 we went back to town (it's a long distance fir us) and got him b complex vitamins. We started giving him b complex twice a day along with vit e. We upped his red cell to 2cc a day. He started slowly getting better. On 3/7 he was keeping his neck up about 80% of the time. At 630 this morning, 3/8, he was holding his neck up fine and crowed for the first time. When my husband came down at 830 he was laying down. When I got home at 5pm his neck was under his belly again (6:00 position). He has been falling over, freaking out, and getting stuck on his back. He was also laying on his belly instead of on his feet. Right now he is sleeping with his legs splayed behind him. He has been shaking his head more than usual and he smells worse than he has been recently, despite having a bath on Sunday.
Up until this point he had been eating food (mixed with a lot of water) on his own as well as eating veggies, seeds and grass. He isn't eating, even when topped with mealworms. I dipped his beak in water and it's almost like he was falling asleep in the water before taking a sip. I tried this for 10min before I switched to a syringe.
Why is he fluctuating so much? At what point is it better to end his suffering. I'm new to chickens so have never been in this position. I have 3 hens without any issues and 3 recently rehomed roosters that also are fine.
