Okay. I have a problem. Two problems.
One 4 month old Ameraucana pullet that two days ago was visibly fine, now can't stand. When she tries it's a royal fail. But otherwise is eating and drinking happily. Oddly, I noticed a while ago that she "shivers" her head every now and then. Like a little spasm or something. Never thought anything of it since she has always done it. Thought it was just odd. Poop is normal, but has had extremely smelly runny poop in the past. Just once in a blue moon kind of thing. She is housed with one other hen (a Blue Marans) who is seemingly happy and healthy and always has been.
Was wondering to treat or cull. Do I need to rid my property of something that may be harmful to the rest of my flock?

Which brings me to the next chicken.
She's a 8 month old Cochin bantam. I went to feed her and she was walking in circles. I stopped her and straightened her neck out, sat her down and she went at the circle walking again! She is housed in a tractor with another Cochin hen and rooster. They are seemingly happy and healthy.

I have 12 young Brahmas that just fully feathered out housed next to the "sick" Ameraucana. What to do!? If this is contagious then it's probably too late to contain it, right?

I have started a vitamin treatment tonight using Polyvisol and vitamin E. I plan to start a soluble vitamin and electrolyte supplement made by Rooster Booster in their drinking water in the morning. I figure it can only help.

Any ideas on what this might be? Is there any sure fire way to know if it is a disease as oppose to a vitamin deficiency?

Josiecoop,

I also have an Americauna about the same age. The past few days she will not (can not) get up. Legs/wings seem fine but she will fall to one side the spin herself in circle. Not sure what it is, food/water interest fine but cant figure out what could be cause? New to chick raising as well and my junior farmers are quite cocnerned as well:..anyone have any ideas base on symptoms ?

Any help, GREATLY appreciated

hmmm,

so i am not the only one..

my cuchin /pekin bantam is still alive, perky ,and eating BUT NOT DRINKING ... i put her food in the water to force her to drink... she pecks, stretches her neck out to grab food (i put her back in with the others, rather then in her plastic drawer, and she percked up. and i remembered that sick animals eat better when with their peers. as far as contagioun, they were with her from the beginning so the point is moot)...

she is also still scooting around on lher stomach , only back wards, and seems that she doesnt have feeling in her legs , at least , when i touch one, she doesnt respond back

... tried putting vitamins in food , ground up a b1 b6 b12 complex vitamen for adults cut in half... doesnts seem to do any difference.

she flaps her wings to propel herself backwards, her head is fine, her eyes are alert, poos are regular, she even preened herself a bit today, but she cannot stand or move forwared even if she wants to very much...

is there a world wide virus going around? none of my others are doing this so i think it cant be the food or there would be more with 'remedia syndrome ' (lack of b complex syndrome that killed several babies here in israel, from baby formula). she's the only one.

i was re considering broken pelvic bone ? anyone have any ideas about that? seems to sound similar to other postings here lately about backward scooting hens...
