Okay. I have a problem. Two problems.
One 4 month old Ameraucana pullet that two days ago was visibly fine, now can't stand. When she tries it's a royal fail. But otherwise is eating and drinking happily. Oddly, I noticed a while ago that she "shivers" her head every now and then. Like a little spasm or something. Never thought anything of it since she has always done it. Thought it was just odd. Poop is normal, but has had extremely smelly runny poop in the past. Just once in a blue moon kind of thing. She is housed with one other hen (a Blue Marans) who is seemingly happy and healthy and always has been.
Was wondering to treat or cull. Do I need to rid my property of something that may be harmful to the rest of my flock?
Which brings me to the next chicken.
She's a 8 month old Cochin bantam. I went to feed her and she was walking in circles. I stopped her and straightened her neck out, sat her down and she went at the circle walking again! She is housed in a tractor with another Cochin hen and rooster. They are seemingly happy and healthy.
I have 12 young Brahmas that just fully feathered out housed next to the "sick" Ameraucana. What to do!? If this is contagious then it's probably too late to contain it, right?
I have started a vitamin treatment tonight using Polyvisol and vitamin E. I plan to start a soluble vitamin and electrolyte supplement made by Rooster Booster in their drinking water in the morning. I figure it can only help.
Any ideas on what this might be? Is there any sure fire way to know if it is a disease as oppose to a vitamin deficiency?
