I have about a 3 week old chick that after around 3-4 days developed wry neck…it’s seems to be getting better but last night started spinning in circles….so I’m wondering what it could be or anyway to treat/help it.

Human Vitamin E 400 IU softgel and human B complex 1/4 tablet daily is the usual treatment for neurological symptoms including wry neck and running in circles or backward. What are you feeding, and is it pretty fresh dated? Could there have been a head injury?

I have been doing vitamin e and selenium it seems like it’s doing better…it seems like it doesn’t have its head tucked under him as often but now spinning in circles but still eating and drinking. I didn’t know if could just be to it getting used to walking without it’s head tucked or if it could be some others illness.

At 3 weeks a head injury or vitamin deficiency is usually the case. In older birds, Mareks sometimes can cause wry neck. Some birds for unknown reasons may have neurological issues. Silkies tend to have problems more often. I would add some b vitamins for the thiamine, since deficiency can cause wry neck too. Egg is good for the small amount of selenium that is needed for vitamin E uptake—too much may be harmful. They may need to be separated if being targeted by the other chicks, and they may need help getting enough to eat and drink. Let us know how she gets along.
