Wry Neck

I wouldn't dream of putting them down myself. I would if I had to but have never had to do it, thank god so far so good. I am glad for Flan maybe Tiny will start to get bigger since she is outside and does her own thing now. At first she wouldn't peck the ground but she watched the others and started to peck like the others. Do you know how to make homemade suet? The store can get expensive and I would like to add things I know they will eat. About Kale, cabbage, lettuce and mustard greens etc., do they need to be cooked or can it just be chopped up raw and feed to them in moderation of course. What other scraps from the kitchen can they eat like left overs from the table. Instead of throwing it away what can they eat that is cooked from the kitchen. I use spices of course and don't know if it will be good for chickens and guineas. Just asking if any has any suggestions. Thanks so much for all the info everyone puts in.

Kale and cabbage can be chopped up and fed raw. My chickens won't eat lettuce, but will eat other greens, such as swiss chard from my garden. They just like it chopped though unless they can pick it off the plant. Raw is best, but have grit available. You might do a search at the top of the page for homemade suet cakes or flock blocks, but you can also Google "homemade suet cakes" and probably get more recipes. Apparently fresheggsdaily.com has some good ones.

This is my duckling I just brought home and she started doing this. Is it Wry neck or do you have other ideas of how to treat it. She seems to be fine other than when she try's to drink water. She may have a knot at the back of her neck but I'm not sure

I was hoping I could show the video but couldn't figure out how. Right now I have her separated from the others but seems to be fine with them. She looks normal other than when she drinks water as soon as her beak touches the water she throws her head back and runs backwards but comes back for more. These are my first ducks so need help please

hello im not sure the anatomy of ducks and i dont want to say birds are birds. there is a good chance it can be wry neck. my advice is to star loading her/him on vitamins (double doses). keep making sure she gets water and food. make her comfortable. if you see my earlier post it list the types of vitamins she may need. but as i have listed before it could be several things metal toxicity vitamin deficiancy birth effect an injury or other effect. how old is she? give her a few weeks to get better. worst case scenerio if you can take her to an avion specialist. they may give her a few over doses of vitamins you cant get in store and an anti imflamitory medication if she hut her self . good luck please give her a chance before you decide to terminate her.

I brought her in the house yesterday and gave her vitamin infused water all day and make sure she ate. I added rolled oats to her duck food. I also added oregano, basil, and thyme to the water. Those are some of the things I read about. She is about a week old I guess. I got her from the feed store and they had only had them for 2 days so assuming they were shipped as day old ducklings. We added vitamins to all the water for the other ducklings. We are giving her a chance. How long until the vitamins start to work? I feel bad for her but it doesn't seem to bother her.

It will take up to 3 weeks before you see any changes. Do not get discouraged if she eating fine and moving well keep positive. Keep up with what your doing and good luck.
