Hey all, does anyone on this site have pure Black Orp eggs or pullets? I have a black cockerel, but no pullets and would like to get a few to raise. I have blue, splash, buff, but only one black.
Thanks
Dick

Dick, I have a pair of blacks in with one splash. You'll only get blacks or blues from this pairing. These are eggs from a fellow BYC member, not a hatchery. Nice birds. $22 shipped for 6+ hatching eggs. I can ship next week.

Do you think that shipping eggs at this time would be a good idea? It is supposed to be in the mid to high 90's all the next week and only going down to the low 80's at night. Would the eggs get too hot during shipment from coast to coast?

From what I am told, IF the temp is over 85 degrees on either end of ship, it will not be okay for shipping eggs. Some here will put an ice pack in the box to help prevent the inevitable. IF it was me, I would either go to a show where reputable breeders are SHOWing their Black Orps, and hope they'll sell you a pullet. Or wait till late September, when the weather cools down. My Blacks don't like layin in this heat. Doubt it would be any cooler where your at. Wait till fall.

Dick, I ship year round and people get great hatches from our eggs. I don't think heat plays as much a factor as freezing temps do. That's my personal experience. There are eggs listed often here for great black orps. Some of the best hidden treasures are not sitting at a show.

Good luck in your search.

I am glad you guys corrected me, cause I had my doubts with the heat.
I know I am at the end of my postal route, and these postal trucks do not appear to have AC. Can't imagine how hot it gets in there. Prolly not too bad IF your an egg.
