My teenaged (7mo) rooster has started making the oddest sound.
It sounds like a rusty hinge on a door, isn't very loud & goes on for some time.

He does it while "supervising" his hens who are mostly 2yo & largely ignore him if not actively putting him in his place with chestbumps & pecking.

He does have a full crow which he exercises on occasion, so WTH is this other squeaking noise about?

It may be his " I found food! " sound,, especially if he is doing it when the hens are around. Does he bob his head up then down to the ground like hes pointing at it? He will do it until a hen comes over, it's his way to try and impress them. So the hens just ignore him? Poor guy

He has a different sound for treats, kind of a soft "buk-buk-bguk" he does when I give them something special.
The hens ignore this too.

Poor little guy is going to have pretty low self-esteem.
Although a couple of them do allow him to mate them, my Head Hen regularly gives him What For if he dares to make advances in her direction.
