I have two chicks from MPC that are a week and a half old now. Yesterday I noticed that my Golden Laced has a different comb than my Silver Laced. At least that is what is looks like to me.

Any ideas why and if you think they are definitely different?

Sometimes straight combs pop up in Wyandottes..... some people keep them around to improve fertility in their line. At least, that's what I remember hearing

I agree with Guitartists. The rose comb gene (R) is dominant over the single comb gene r+. So if you have a bird that is R/r+ (rose combed) and you mate them with a bird that is R/r+ (rose combed) then you have a chance of hatching birds that are r+/r+ and they have a single comb. If you mate the single combed bird with a rose combed bird you will get 100% rose combed or 50% rose combed and 50% single. If you mate a single comb with a rose comb and get single combed bird you know the rose combed bird is heterozygous or split for rose comb and single comb.
