Forgive me for asking this if it's already been hashed to death, but I did a search and was overwhelmed with posts and couldn't sort it all out.

What would the offspring of a mixed flock of gold-laced wyandottes and silver-laced wyandottes look like?

I'm sure I'd get a few true chicks of each, unless the roos really didn't like their own ladies

Just wondering what the new generation would look like if the roos wandered "to the other side" occasionally:cool:

If the hen is silver laced, and the cock gold laced then the mating is called a "sex-linked" mating - and the colours and genders will reverse in the young. The hens will be gold laced (and true breeding) , and the roosters will be silver laced but carrying gold. It's supposed to be a yellowish colour with black lacing. Only cocks can "carry" another colour - because they have two genes for colour, hens are what they are - having only one colour gene - they can't carry the other colour.

I've asked if anyone can post a picture of a Silver rooster, carrying gold on another thread - but so far no one has come up with one.

If the cock is silver - and the hen is gold - then all cocks produced will be those yellowy golds - carrying the silver gene. The hens of such a mating will all be true breeding silvers.

Hope this helps.

oh, that is awesome info, thanks!!

at least I'd be able to tell which daddy did what

Hi,

Just reviving this thread to save creating a new one. I ordered some supposedly gold laced wyandotte bantam eggs last month and they hatched over the weekend.
They are a mix of colours and none are clearly gold laced.
I have contacted the seller but when I looked up her advertisements online she also had silver laced eggs for sale too (none of the chicks match up with them either).
If anyone here has had silver x gold laced chicks do any of these look like they could be a mix between those two colours?

Am a bit annoyed about the whole thing, I wanted a gold laced bantam hen to add to my flock from those eggs and could have gotten some extra cuckoo silkie eggs (my dream chicken) to put under the broody that was sitting on these eggs that weren't even what I ordered. Having said that, they are cute little things.

So the seller got in contact with me and it turns out that they are a mix between silver and gold laced Wyandottes. I do find the mix of different colours from the same cross interesting. If I had more space I would be tempted to keep them to find out what they turn out to be but unfortunately I don't and I was really just after a gold laced hen to keep out of this hatch. I'll hopefully sell them before I get too attached to any of them.
