Annabelle, my smart Wyandotte is moving herself off the roost the nest in the middle of the night. 3 nights ago she even laid an egg in the nest in the middle of the night. I've also seen her on top of the nest box in the morning, which is almost 5 feet high. I make sure all the girls are on the roost before shutting the door. It's 100% pitch black in there. I guess she knows her way around pretty well. I've never heard of chickens navigating in pitch darkness.

she may be sleep walking lol as weird as it sounds
chickens do dream like humans
humans can sleep walk when a certain hormone isnt present in thier blood stream which prevents movements during dreams and thus the sleeep walking which mite be the same case for this hen doing weird things
