Hi all,

Noticed today that my Wyandotte around 7-8 months old has lossed the feathers around her vent. We have a plastic coop, and it gets cleaned very frequently—not sure it could be mites or lice. She laid an egg this morning. Any thoughts or suggestions on what I should do? New chicken keeper here.

Thanks,
Joe

It's likely feather picking, have you checked for mites? What does your birds eat and how big is their coop?
I haven’t done a close inspection yet for mites. Coop is large enough for 10 birds and we have 5. They eat kalmbach 17% layer crumble and I supplement that with grubs. What can be done for feather picking?

Find out which hens are doing it. Raise the protein levels of their feed.
how big is the coop in dimensions?
