My blue laced red wyandotte went broody, so I got her 10 hatching eggs from Meyer hatchery. I'm not sure what went on with the eggs, but she only hatched 1 chick and left the nest! The other eggs appear to be not viable after candling. The chick is very cute, and it's really fun watching her mom around. I was hoping to get more than 1, and I'm contemplating getting some day-old chicks. I wouldn't be able to add them in for about 5 days from today. How likely do you think it is that she'd accept day-old chicks since she has one and is in chick raising mode?

sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. I would get chicks that are the same general size and colour as hers, so she is more likely to recognize them as baby birds and not tiny intruders. I also suggest sneaking them under her while she sleeps, and then watch closely for the next few days, to make sure she doesn't try to eat the new chicks.

There's a strong possibility your hen will accept the day-old chicks since she's already in chick-raising mode, especially if they're introduced at night when she's more relaxed. But because it will be approximately five days later, observe her response, since certain hens may be more protective of their own baby.
