Wyandottes?

I am in Tyler, Texas. I suppose I am going to have to make a disclaimer in my sig line saying any birds pictured have been long since lost to me. These were McKinney and Govero stock though; before they liquidated their stock. If you can find someone who got their birds before Murray McMurray bought them I think you would be getting some excellent stock.

Um...I am one of those people. I got my original stock from a friend who bought them from McKinney & Govero right before they sold out to MM. I've gotten additional stock that was hatched from breeder stock in Washington state since.

Stacey - I knew that is where you got your birds. I was just stating that to those that might be looking for quality BLRW. And to head of any pm's asking for them.

So what color would you say this one is and would she work?

If she's out of your BLR stock, she's probably black laced red, and not a very well laced example, seeing as how the lacing is too broad and nearly coloring the whole feather. I was told that black LR are usually poorly laced, but I have one girl that's got excellent lacing, better than my dark girls, actually. I was told not to use them for breeding, but since her lacing is so good, I'm putting her in with my light roo and dark girls.

I would say you could get ahold of a good light roo, you could try breeding her with him and see how well your resulting dark chicks were laced. I know from experience that even some of the worst marked hens have the potential to produce better looking chicks if bred with a good roo. I have a few light hens that are poorly marked, yet none of the offspring have come out looking as faded as them.

wow she is gorgeous! I think she hatched from the same eggs as the BLRs. I like to see what my girl can produce she is real good natured and she lays everyday.
