I have two SLW. They are great layers 5 to 6 eggs a week.

However, they are the least human-friendly of my flock. They will not come anywhere near me while the other girls walk all over my toes or even between my legs. Although, they did eat some BOSS out of my hands today.

They are also absolutely the meanest to the younger chickens.

But they are great egg producers. Consistently laying big beige eggs.

Recently got 6 new ladies. 2 Barred Rocks, 2 Buff Orpingtons, and 2 Blue Laced Red Wyandots. They are all very friendly, and my 2 BLRW are sweet, and absolutely gorgeous!!! I can't wait to get more of them!

it sounds like willowbranch already helped on chick necessity.

but for wyndottes, they are very friendly, but dont lay much.

so if you are looking for egg layers, wyandottes are not the breed for you!
Ours are Columbian Wyandottes and they lay very nicely. We were averaging 42 to 44 eggs per month from two birds from Feb. to Oct last year, and the young'un who started laying New Year's eve gave us about 17 eggs in January- this despite very short days and below freezing weather most of the month.

I got 5 Columbian's in November and they started laying almost a month after I got them. They lay almost every day and one has produced some double yoke eggs for us. They are very nice hearty birds and I love them. I was amazed at their size when I got them, because they are a larger bird. They are all very sweet and very social. I have one that has turned broody, which I don't mind, because if I want to hatch, I know that she will rise to the challenge. LOL They have been my go to birds since my older girls took the winter off.

I really like this breed and will stay with them, because of their temperament and consistency to lay.
