Wyoming Chicken Lover!

If you are just looking for egg-layers, you can get 2 year old, organic battery hens from Grant Farms in Wellington.
The current price is $35 for 6. I like that they have been raised organic. And yes, they are beyond peak egg laying, but they are stilll laying eggs and its only me and my husband eating eggs. If egg laying gets too slow, we can always do chicken and dumplin's.
This is what I plan to do to get started once I get the HOA covenants changed.
I'm thinking it is a good way to start out. Get eggs right away and work out some of the kinks in my set-up.

What do you think?

Found a gal on CL that was selling pullet hens for 10 a piece. We ended up driving to Loveland, but got beautiful hand raised 17-19 week old pullets. I ended up with 2 EE, 2 red comets, 2 buff orpingtons, 1 blue laced red wyandotte, 1 silver laced wyandotte, 1 white leghorn, 1 barred rock, and one little blue guy that I am really not sure of the breed. So my chicken math goes as follows..18-1(culled and egg eater)=17+11+28-1(culled another one)=27 total. Many of the original 18 that I bought are older. I really don't think they are laying much if at all. 4 of those originals are about 17=19 weeks as well and are not laying yet. I average 8 eggs a day. Can't wait for the 15 pullets to start laying in the next month or so.

The pullets I found in CO were on CL. I just saw some others on there in the past couple of days as well. If you are interested, I can pass on the name and number of the gal that I got mine from. She had over 70 to start with last week. A variety of breeds. Her kids raise them for 4-H, sell them and then use the money to help support their other 4-H projects.

my wife is in denver right now buying a baby goat and mating one of our alpacas. i found a lady on cl that im going to have her pick up some chickens from today.

but think you!
