Guineas sleep at night... If they are not sleeping then something is keeping them awake... I Know you have probably gotten good information... but I am unable to read it...I have 11 guineas who spend the night in a dog run with a tarp over it in the back yard. at night we have no outdoor lights on when we go to bed, yet the guineas squawk in unison all night long.. During the day they like to come to the front porch and squawk till I run them off. They then settle in front of their run and sleep on the ground in the sun. WHY aren't they sleeping at night like the ducks and chickens? How do I get them to shush? or sleep at night?

It could be a predator messin around... Mine would go off at the sound of a car on my eighteen acres... Easement goes through pretty far away too.
Roosts should be high Mine were in a dog kennel and I was able to make a hat over the kennel to raise i up another four feet. I put the roosts up at six and eight feet... Then a tarp over the top of it all.
Regularly visiting predators should be investigated and trapped or eliminated... or both. They put your other livestock at risk. One of the reasons I got guinea fowl in the first place is that Burglar alarm quality.... People cross my land ... I live within two miles of the Mexican border.

Possums are good. We have or resident ones that live under our shed along with an armadillo (I'm no sure what they eat).
Possums are mean if they are cornered or feel threatened. otherwise they just lumber away. My guineas love to follow them and harass them hollering at them - typical guineas . Have had 2 possums in the past sleep with my chickens in the Winter and each morning do their sloooow shuffle into the woods in the morning to hang out there until dusk. They'll eat chickens, small ducks, eggs....and they can be down right mean....
You are lucky indeed to have a harmonious relationship with them. Unfortunately, most don't. I don't mind sharing, I've even assisted in rehabbing baby possums and others, and releasing back to the wild. Alongside a licensed rehabber. But like any wild animal, I don't think it's good to allow them to live in close proximity to my family or livestock. It's just so risky. But that is strictly my opinion.Possums are mean if they are cornered or feel threatened. otherwise they just lumber away. They do have an affinity to eating eggs and bird seed. I hear them crossing over our roof sometimes to get to the hanging bird feeders. Since I have over 60 hens, I don't mind sharing with the wildlife.![]()
Up to 95% if the population is genetically UNsusceptible to contracting leprosy and only the nine-banded armadillo is known to carry the disease. Scientist believe that WE actually transmitted the disease to each other about 400 - 500 years ago. And it is cured by antibiotics now.Armadillos carry rabies and leporacy....
Okay...
Back to the subject to clear the head of Lionel Richie...

That would be Guiseppe from the deck railing all day long for two years until an opossum ate him.
